Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been adopted as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election.
The decision was ratified on Saturday during a special national convention organised by the PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki at the party’s office in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
Although Jonathan was absent from the event, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by a member of the House of Representatives representing Bayelsa State, Fred Agbedi.
The faction had originally planned to hold the convention at the A-Class Park and Event Centre in Abuja.
However, the venue was changed following a directive by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) instructing hotels and event centres to transact only with political party leaderships recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP leadership backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is currently recognised by INEC.
Earlier on Saturday, police officers blocked access roads leading to the A-Class Park and Event Centre, prompting organisers to relocate the convention to the party’s office in Area 10.
Party officials said a date for the formal presentation of the PDP flag to Jonathan would be announced at a later time.
