2027: Kwankwaso meets Aregbesola, Kano ADC leaders in Abuja

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Thursday met with the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, in Abuja amid growing speculation over possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso announced Aregbesola’s visit via a post on X on Friday, March 27, 2026, but did not disclose details of their discussions.

“It was a pleasure to receive my dear friend, His Excellency Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the ADC, this evening at my residence in Abuja,” the former two-term governor of Kano State wrote.

Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, revealed that the former governor also met with Kano State leaders of the ADC, including the party’s National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai.

Hassan, in a post on X, added that the delegation, led by Musa Shuaibu Ungogo, visited Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence as consultations ahead of the 2027 elections continue.

Obi alleges plot to rig 2027, moves to challenge Electoral Act

There were reports the former governor is considering joining the ADC as part of efforts to build a broader political coalition.

The development follows speculation about a possible alliance between Kwankwaso and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi for a joint presidential ticket in 2027.

However, it was gathered that Kwankwaso may be delaying his defection due to uncertainty surrounding Obi’s chances of securing the ADC presidential ticket.

The former Minister of Defence recently hosted Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Senator Seriake Dickson at his residence in Kano, further fueling talks of a potential alliance.
