2027: NDC rejects viral document naming La’ah as Kaduna candidate

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected a document circulating on social media purporting to show former Senator Danjuma La’ah as its governorship candidate for Kaduna State in the 2027 election.

The party’s Deputy National Chairman, North, Sidi Abdul Bomi, said the document did not originate from the NDC and should be disregarded.

Bomi’s position comes amid a dispute over the party’s governorship ticket in Kaduna, where La’ah and Mohammed Abbas have been associated with rival claims to the nomination.

Abbas, who insists he is the party’s duly nominated candidate, said the national leadership had already clarified that the document bearing La’ah’s name was not genuine.

He said the purported ticket was also sent to the party’s National Secretary for verification, with the official reportedly questioning its authenticity.

Abbas said he followed the party’s nomination process by obtaining the governorship form, undergoing screening and participating in the primary election conducted in Kaduna.

He said the primary election committee declared him the winner and that the party subsequently uploaded his name as its candidate.

According to Abbas, La’ah did not participate in the screening or primary election and therefore could not have emerged through the same process.

“He wasn’t screened. If he was screened, it must have been privately because we didn’t see him at the screening venue. And he didn’t come for the primaries,” Abbas said.

He also said La’ah initially joined the NDC to contest the Kaduna South senatorial seat and not the governorship.

Abbas, who said he helped bring the former senator into the party, expressed hope that La’ah would return to the senatorial contest, describing him as an experienced campaigner who could strengthen the party.

He also said he planned to engage La’ah and other party stakeholders in an effort to resolve the disagreement and build unity ahead of the 2027 election.

The consultations, according to Abbas, would include party leaders, ward officials, elders, women and youth groups.

The NDC has not announced any new governorship candidate to replace or supersede Abbas, while the party’s denial has cast doubt on the authenticity of the document circulating online.
