Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ for burial in Ogun today

The remains of veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026, with special prayers scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Pavilion in the town.

The burial arrangement was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko, hours after the celebrated Yoruba film star died at the age of 66.

Kosoko disclosed that Ogogo passed away at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, adding that his remains would be moved to Ilaro the same day ahead of Monday’s Islamic rites.

Kosoko stated that family members, friends, colleagues, and sympathisers were expected to gather at the Pavilion in Ilaro for prayers before the final burial.

Describing the development as a painful loss, Kosoko prayed for Allah to forgive the late actor’s shortcomings and grant him Aljanah Firdaus.

He wrote on Instagram: “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of ALHAJI TAIWO HASSAN, popularly known as OGOGO, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years.

“His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where special prayers will take place at the pavilion Ilaro tomorrow.

“Date: Monday, 24th August 2026.

“Time: 11:00 a.m.

“Venue: Pavillon, Ilaro, Ogun State

“We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen. 🤲🏽”

Ogogo was widely regarded as one of the pillars of the Yoruba movie industry, earning acclaim for his performances in numerous films over a career that spanned decades. His death has continued to draw tributes from colleagues and fans across the country.
