2027: Wadada returns to APC, aims Nasarawa governorship

Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring his intention to contest the Nasarawa State governorship election in 2027.

Wadada, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, announced his defection on Sunday at his electoral ward in Tudun Kofa, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Speaking during the declaration, the lawmaker said his decision was informed by the “dynamism of life” and the prevailing political realities in the state.

“Two years ago, I left APC due to circumstances created by some party stalwarts who attempted to frustrate my senatorial ambition.

“That compelled me to join the SDP, under which I won the election with a wide margin.

“Today, the dynamics have changed again, and APC provides a better political platform for me and my supporters,” he said.

The senator emphasized that while he switches parties when necessary, he maintains strong ties with his electorate.

“Wherever I go, the people are with me, and to God Almighty be the glory,” he added.

Wadada also called on Nigerians, particularly his constituents, to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise to prepare for the 2027 elections.

On national politics, the senator praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, urging Nigerians to re-elect him in 2027.

“If my supporters truly believe in me, no one should persuade them otherwise.

“President Tinubu deserves a second term, not because of personal ties but based on his performance and objectivity,” he stated.

He also commended Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule for his developmental strides, describing him as one of the best leaders the state has produced since its creation in 1996.

Wadada reminded supporters of his long-standing contributions to the APC, including serving as Director-General of the campaign that led to Governor Sule’s emergence in 2019, before he was denied the APC senatorial ticket which forced his temporary defection to the SDP.

With his return to the APC, Wadada has now set his sights on the Nasarawa State governorship seat in 2027.
