The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Samuel Akoade, over the alleged killing of his 60-year-old mother, Mrs Olufunke Amoo, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at the deceased’s residence in the Powerline area along the Ore-Okitipupa Road.
The woman was reportedly found lying in a pool of blood with deep machete wounds. She was said to have died before the arrival of the police.
Following a report of the incident, operatives of the Ore Divisional Police Headquarters mobilised to the residence, secured the scene and commenced preliminary investigations.
A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while photographs and other evidence from the scene were documented.
The suspect, who reportedly fled after the incident, was later arrested by the police following efforts to track him down.
Confirming the arrest, the state police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said Akoade was being held in connection with the death of Amoo.
He said the deceased’s remains had been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, directed the SCID to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.
The command also appealed to residents to provide timely information about suspicious activities in their communities, assuring the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property.
