A 26-year-old woman, Rukayat Shittu, has been elected to represent Owode/Onire Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Shittu, who is a former Senate President of the Congress of Students at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), was declared the winner of the Kwara State House of Assembly election held in the state on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
She contested on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the results announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Prof. Hakeem Ijaya, the 26-year-old woman polled 7,521 votes to beat her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenger, who garnered 6,957 votes.
