Rather than thaw the crisis between Governor Simi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Tuesday deepened.
Twenty-seven members of the 32-member Rivers State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The pro-Wike lawmakers cited division within the PDP as reason for the defection on Monday, December 11, 2023.
The faction led by its Speaker, Mr, Martin Amaewhule, announced their defection at its 87th plenary in Port Harcourt.
The 27 legislators accused Governor Fubara of starving them of funds.
Speaking after reading the letters signed by the defected lawmakers, Amaewhule directed the Clerk of the House to convey their resolution to the governor, Mr. Siminialayi Fubara and relevant authorities.
According to him, the decision of 27 lawmakers is borne out of the desire to serve the state better.
However, the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2023′ scaled through the second reading at the plenary.
The National Leadership of the APC had earlier handed over the structures of APC in Rivers State to Wike with Rotimi Amaechi losing out.
There is fear of impeachment against Governor Fubara.
