A 29-year-old graduate of Sociology from Kogi State University, identified as Blessing Moshood, has been found dead after she was allegedly murdered and her body dumped in a canal in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja.
According to her sister, Abigail Moshood, the victim left home around 8 p.m. last Thursday after receiving a phone call. About an hour later, she reportedly called back to say she would briefly return to pick up her phone charger but never made it home.
Concern grew among family members when Blessing failed to return the following day. Their fears were confirmed after reports emerged of a female body discovered in a canal, with a description that matched her appearance.
Abigail said the family later learned that officers from the Jikwoyi Police Station had recovered the body and taken it to a mortuary in nearby Mararaba, Nasarawa State. She added that she was able to identify her sister after being shown photographs by the police.
The deceased’s neighbours described her as intelligent, friendly, and well-regarded in the community. One resident noted that Blessing, who graduated with a Second Class Upper degree, was admired for her eloquence and warm personality.
Another resident called on security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle criminal activities in the area, particularly around Jikwoyi Medical Centre, where incidents such as phone snatching have been reported.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.
