33-year-old man arrested for sexual assault of infant in Yobe

Police in Yobe State have arrested a 33-year-old man, Ibrahim Shaibu Goni, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a nine-month-old girl in Potiskum town.

The Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday.

According to the statement, Goni allegedly took the infant from her mother before committing the act, which left the child with visible lacerations.

Both the victim and the suspect have been taken to a medical facility for examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the “heinous act” and assured the public that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted to ensure justice is served.

He also urged parents to enhance their vigilance regarding their children’s safety and issued a stern warning to potential offenders, emphasizing that they will face severe penalties.
