4 Benue banks robbery suspects arrested

Security operatives have arrested no fewer than four armed robbery suspects who attacked some commercial banks in Benue State.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested by Joint Security Forces comprising officers of the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigerian Army, among others, along the Otukpo-Taraku road in Benue State on Saturday.

A police source made the disclosure while sharing a video of the armed robbery suspects on Saturday night.

“Four armed robbers have been arrested by Joint Security Forces along Otukpo-Taraku road, Benue State on Saturday. The robbers are part of those armed robbers who attacked banks and a police station at Otukpo, Benue State yesterday,” the source noted.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, however, harped on the need to await the conclusion of the investigation by the investigation team.

“Please let’s allow them to finish their investigation and report,” Anene said.

Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force revealed that two suspects were killed during a chase of armed robbers who robbed a bank, attacked a police station, and killed some police officers in Benue State on Friday.

It would be recalled that no fewer than ten people, including three police officers were killed by the armed robbers during the attack.

Following the incident, the Benue State Police Command, on Saturday, said it has initiated a comprehensive and coordinated effort to bring the perpetrators to book.

This was as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of additional operational and investigative assets and resources to Otukpo, the Benue State Command, and surrounding states to assist in the swift apprehension of the other fleeing criminals responsible for the incidents.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made this known in a statement on Saturday, said the IGP has also put all police commands and formations on red alert to avert further deadly attacks on institutions and innocent citizens.

He noted that the Otukpo attack was an early warning sign of the ember month challenges which are often characterised by bank robbery and other related crimes.
