4 killed as gunmen attack Soludo’s Chief of Staff’s convoy in Anambra

The Anambra State Government has confirmed the death of four people following an attack by gunmen on the convoy of Ben Nwankwo, the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Law Mefor, in a statement, disclosed that the attack occurred on Sunday between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. along the Orumba North–Awka South boundary while the chief of staff was returning from an official assignment.

Mefor described the attack as a direct assault on the peace, security and democratic order of the state, stressing that it was not merely an attack on an individual but on the entire people and government of Anambra State.

Mefor stated: “This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our state, as well as the Government and people of Anambra.

“Sadly, four persons lost their lives and deserve justice.

“The Anambra State Government sends its deepest condolences to the families of those who died and shares in their grief.”

The commissioner also assured residents that security agencies had commenced investigations and were working to identify and apprehend all those responsible for the attack.

He said the police and other security agencies have been directed to ensure that everyone involved in the incident is brought to justice.

Despite the attack, Mefor maintained that the incident would not derail ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal activities.

He described the attack as an isolated incident coming after more than a year of relative peace and security in Anambra State and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime.
