43 Boko Haram-linked family members intercepted in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted 43 family members linked to Boko Haram after they reportedly fled terrorist captivity amid clashes between rival factions in Borno State.

The group was intercepted around 7pm on September 23, 2026, in Konduga Local Government Area of the state, according to security sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama.

The sources said preliminary investigations indicated that the individuals escaped from captivity in Yuwe following fighting between the Islamic State West Africa Province and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad.

They were subsequently handed over to personnel of the 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation and necessary action.

Security authorities are expected to question the group to establish their identities, circumstances surrounding their captivity and possible links to terrorist activities.

The development could also provide intelligence on the movements, activities and internal conflicts of terrorist factions operating in the area.

The military has continued operations across Borno to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent insurgent groups from using displaced populations and rural communities for recruitment, logistics and other forms of support.
