No fewer than five people have died in Kano State as the state also recorded 189 cases following cholera outbreak across 20 local government areas of the state.
The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Tsanyawa, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kano on Tuesday.
Tsanyawa said 84 have fully recovered while the state now stands at zero case following multi-sectoral collaborative response to the outbreak.
The commissioner said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had recorded a total of 2,339 cholera cases across the state from January to June 2022.
He further stated that Nigeria was still affected by cholera, especially during the rainy season due to poor personal and environmental hygiene, poor waste management, and open defecation which fast track feco-oral transmission of the of the disease.

He said: “It will interest you to know that last year by now we recorded 12,116 cases across the State with 329 deaths. This is connected with the prompt and multi-sectoral collaborative response by the state.”
Tsanyawa, however, said the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led administration was commitment to providing holistic health care services to the people of Kano State in order to eliminate cholera outbreak and other diseases in the state.
He appealed to the residents of the state to imbibe good personal and environmental hygiene and sanitation to get rid of the disease in the state.
