54-year-old man commits suicide in Lagos

A 54-year-old man, identified simply as Benjamin, has committed suicide in the Agege area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Hundeyin disclosed that the incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.

He said the elder brother of the 54-year-old man reported the incident at the Elere Police Station that his brother committed suicide by hanging himself to death in the store of their house.

The police spokesman said: “Officers of the division immediately visited the scene and the deceased was lowered and taken to the Orile-Agege General Hospital, where he was certified dead.

“No mark of violence was found on the body of the deceased.”

Hundeyin stated that the body had been removed from Oriole-Agee Hospital and deposited at Mainland Hospital in Yaba for autopsy.

He added that police detectives are investigating the incident.
