55-year-old Bauchi community leader shot dead

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, over the alleged killing of a community leader in Unguwar Ngas, Bauchi metropolis.

The victim, 55-year-old Jacob Bature, who was the Mai Anguwan Ngas, was allegedly shot during an altercation on the evening of July 19.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, said the suspect allegedly used a locally made single-barrel gun to shoot Bature, leaving him with severe injuries.

According to him, the victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by doctors.

Abubakar said police operatives later arrested the suspect and recovered the locally made firearm allegedly used in the attack, along with an expended cartridge.

He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are brought to justice.

He also urged residents to shun the unlawful possession of firearms and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
