7 injured in GNI building fire outbreak ― LASEMA

No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed injured in the fire incident at the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) building on Martins Street, Lagos Island.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed this via a statement issued on Thursday, December 25, 2025, noting that the fire, which spread to the mosque in the area, has now been contained by the combined efforts of responders at the scene.

LASEMA stated that the Oluwole Plaza and adjoining buildings in close proximity of the high-rise building have all been salvaged.

The agency stated: “Seven adult males suffered various degrees of burns injuries as a result of the inferno and have been attended by the agencies paramedics and taken to nearby hospitals for further medical.

“Three male and two female victims were administered first aid due to smoke inhalation and released at the incident scene.

“The intensity of the heat and smoke has reduced due to efforts of emergency responders.”

LASEMA added that the seven-storey Radio Nigeria building, opposite the Great Nigeria Insurance House, has been extinguished safely by emergency responders.

“A section of the Oluwole Plaza which was gutted by fire has also been brought under control, salvaging most of the goods and stalls in the building. Dampening down is also ongoing there,” LASEMA said, adding that recovery operation was still ongoing.
