A 72-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion supporter has died after falling ill while leaving the stadium following the club’s match against Aston Villa.

The fan became unwell in the coach park as he made his way towards a supporters’ club bus after the game.

Emergency responders and stadium staff immediately attended the incident and carried out prolonged CPR, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics, St John Ambulance, Sussex Police, MB Medical Solutions, the club’s crowd doctor and stewards were among those who responded.

Brighton’s chief executive and deputy chairman, Paul Barber, said the club was “shocked and saddened” by the supporter’s death.

He expressed condolences to the man’s family and friends, describing the incident as a heartbreaking end to what should have been a routine journey home.

The club also commended the emergency services and stadium staff who worked together to provide medical assistance following the incident.
