8 dead, 3 injured in Abia accident

No fewer than eight persons have been confirmed dead in a road crash that occurred along the Bende-Ohafia Road in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

The Abia State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident on Monday, December 23, 2024.

The Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, in a statement on Monday, disclosed that the accident occurred along the Mmuri River axis of the road on Sunday, December 22.

Ezeoma said the crash involved a trailer carrying chippings which hit and fell on a Sharon Volkswagen vehicle with 10 persons on board.

Ezeoma stated: “At the time of the crash, eight persons had died including a woman standing by the roadside and three persons were injured.

“The injured victims were taken to the hospital while the dead ones were deposited at the morgue.”

The FRSC official added that preliminary investigation revealed that the crash was caused by dangerous driving and excessive speeding.
