Veteran Nigerian highlife musician Mike Ejeagha, celebrated for his rich fusion of Igbo folklore and proverbs, has passed away at the age of 95.
The iconic “Gwo Gwo Gwo” singer died on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, a facility run by the Nigerian Army.
His death was confirmed by his eldest son, Emma Ejeagha.
Ejeagha rose to prominence in the 1980s, captivating audiences with his storytelling style of highlife music that preserved and popularized Igbo culture.
His contributions earned him a lasting place in Nigeria’s musical history, with a legacy that spans decades and generations.
