Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree banning the procurement of foreign-made clothing and gear for the armed forces, effective January 1, 2026.

The directive mandates that all uniforms and related items be produced by Russian companies with manufacturing facilities inside the country.

From 2027, the requirement will extend to fabrics and knitted materials, which must also be domestically sourced.

According to the decree, the move is aimed at completely phasing out imported clothing and materials for military use.

Items affected include uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, special clothing, footwear, equipment, and sanitary supplies, all supplied through the state defence order system.
