The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has resumed direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, ending a 15-year break.
In a statement on Saturday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, said officials from the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services have been deployed to the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) warehouses to monitor real-time cargo charge collections.
The authority explained that the move is aimed at plugging revenue leakages, improving transparency, and strengthening accountability in cargo operations.
Working with the PTC Customs Area Command, FAAN noted that the initiative has already enhanced efficiency in the air cargo value chain.
Describing the development as a “landmark achievement,” FAAN said the breakthrough at MMIA would be replicated across other airports as part of efforts to optimise cargo operations and generate new revenue streams for the aviation sector.
