Three people were killed and 103 others injured on Friday when seven carriages of a passenger train derailed in Egypt’s Matrouh Governorate.
The accident, which occurred at about 3:30 p.m. between Fouka and Galal stations, was caused by track subsidence, leaving two carriages overturned.
More than 50 ambulances were deployed, and hospitals across the region were placed on high alert.

By evening, 87 of the injured had been treated and discharged.
Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, who visited the crash site, ordered a full investigation and vowed swift sanctions against anyone found culpable.
The tragedy comes amid heightened concern over rail safety in Egypt, where 220 accidents were recorded in 2024, resulting in 57 deaths.
