The Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, has constituted a seven-member investigative panel to look into allegations by a patient, Joshua Afolayan, claiming that his kidney was removed during a surgical procedure at the facility.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti by the hospital’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Rolake Adewumi.
According to the statement, the Board Chairman, Adedamola Dada, announced the inauguration of the committee.
The panel is chaired by Francis Faduyile, an anatomic pathologist from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
Other members include Patrick Adegun of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti; Henry Abiyere of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti; and Adebola Adeniyi-Agbaje, General Manager of Progress FM, Ado-Ekiti.
Also on the panel are Emmanuel Aribasoye, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ekiti State chapter; Babatunde Akindele, the Elemo of Ado-Ekiti; and Adebayo Titilayo, Legal Adviser to the Ekiti State Ministry of Health, who will serve as secretary.
The committee has been given 10 days to submit its findings.
“The hospital management reassures the public that no stone will be left unturned in uncovering the facts of this matter,” the statement read.
EKSUTH added that the panel comprises independent and reputable individuals who are expected to uphold fairness and justice throughout the investigation, and it urged all parties involved to fully cooperate with the process.
