The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK), Kaduna State, on Saturday matriculated 1,909 pioneer students, marking a major milestone since the institution began academic activities in September 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnaba Qurix, said the university was established to promote applied sciences, innovation, and practical skills, with a focus on bridging the gap between theory and practice.
He disclosed that FUASK currently runs 18 academic programmes across seven faculties.
Qurix said the rapid development of the university had been supported by infrastructure projects funded by TETFund, the Kaduna State Government, and other partners, assuring students and parents of adequate security and strong student welfare policies.
He acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, the Ministers of Education and Defence, the Pro-Chancellor, Bishop Matthew Kukah, and other stakeholders.
Delivering a lecture on University Culture, Prof. Andrew Haruna, Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, urged students to embrace discipline, responsibility, and ethical conduct, while shunning social vices.
Representatives of the Kaduna State Government and the Nigerian Army assured the university community of continued support and enhanced security.
The 1,909 students were selected from over 4,000 applicants.
FUASK is positioning itself as an emerging centre for applied sciences and skills-driven education in Kaduna State.
