The Ogun and Lagos State governments have commiserated with British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, over the loss of two persons in a road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday, December 29, 2025.
The governments, in a joint statement issued on Monday, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort for them in the wake of the tragic loss.
The statement was signed by the Special Adviser on Information to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode Akinmade, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso.
The governments said Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where they underwent comprehensive medical assessments.
They added that doctors have confirmed that both individuals are stable and do not require emergency medical intervention, adding that Joshua is conscious and has been in contact with his family.

The statement said: “A full medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor them closely.
“Anthony Joshua is conscious and has been in communication with his family.
“The Governments of Ogun and Lagos States are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that the affected persons receive the best possible medical care. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have also commenced.
“We appreciate the concern shown by members of the public and kindly request privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family at this time.”
