The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he will only align with a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if he is offered either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.

Kwankwaso made this known during a Kwankwasiyya meeting held at his Miller Road residence in Kano, where he spoke on ongoing political consultations and realignments ahead of the next election cycle.

“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” he said.

“But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”

His remarks come amid growing speculation about a possible defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso, however, dismissed the reports, describing them as baseless.

“That is nothing but a dream,” he said.

The former Kano State governor also criticised the current political approach under President Bola Tinubu, arguing that having numerical dominance within a party does not automatically guarantee electoral victory.

According to him, the number of governors on a party’s platform is less important than credibility, performance, and genuine popular support.

Kwankwaso’s comments have further intensified discussions around potential alliances and political realignments as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
