Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed security agencies to begin the demolition of suspected terrorist hideouts in Okene Local Government Area of the state.
The operation commenced on Wednesday with the demolition of a building in Sambel, Idoji, believed to be linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The action is part of broader efforts by the state government to curb rising security threats and restore peace in affected communities.
The move follows a series of recent security incidents in the area, including the burning of a house belonging to Ohireba Obanyi of Ebiraland in Uhuodo a few days ago, which authorities say is connected to terrorist activities.
In previous months, Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi had alleged that a significant number of insurgents operating in Kogi State and parts of the South West were locals who had been radicalised by extremist ideologies.
Security agencies have also confirmed the recent recapture and arraignment of the alleged mastermind of the Deeper Life Bible Church attack in Okene, identified as a leader of the Ansaru terror group.
According to the state government, these developments point to attempts by extremist elements to establish a foothold in parts of Kogi State.
Ododo has therefore reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to dismantling all criminal and terrorist networks in the state, stressing that the government will take decisive action to ensure lasting peace, security and prosperity for residents.
