The Oyo State Fire Service Agency on Thursday reported rescuing a man from a burning truck in Kara, along the Kishi/Kaima Road in Irepo Local Government Area, on Wednesday night.
Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the agency, disclosed this in a statement from Ibadan. He said the incident was reported at about 9:00 pm.
“The fire involved a Volvo truck loaded with rubber materials, engulfed in intense flames. Our firefighters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent Olayiwola Kazeem, promptly responded and rescued a male occupant,” Akinwande said. He added that the fire was extinguished and prevented from spreading to nearby buildings. The rescued man was taken to a hospital in Kishi.
According to the agency, the blaze was caused by sparks from the truck’s engine while in motion. Akinwande urged truck owners to follow fire safety protocols and equip vehicles with fire extinguishers to curb early-stage fire incidents. The statement comes amid a series of recent fires in the state, including a blaze last Friday that destroyed vehicles and a community powerhouse at a filling station in Kara, Kishi, and another on Tuesday that razed the RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station, a petrol tanker, and a motorcycle in Ofiki, Saki.
