Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters who attempted to cross into Nigeria from Cameroon through the Galakura area of Borno State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday during ongoing Operation Desert Sanity V.
According to the sources, troops, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted the terrorists as they tried to infiltrate Nigerian territory through the border axis.
“The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat in disarray back towards the Cameroon side,” one of the sources said.
The troops were said to have pursued the fleeing insurgents and carried out a sweep of the area, although no further contact was made.
Items recovered during the operation included two motorcycles, two bottles of palm oil, a sack of beans, a blanket and other items believed to belong to the terrorists.
The sources added that troops have continued to dominate the thickly forested border area to prevent further infiltration and deny the terrorists freedom of movement.
They noted that monitoring of the area remains ongoing, adding that troop morale and operational effectiveness remain high.
