The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have extended the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables by two weeks, following low application numbers from several states, including Lagos.
President Bola Tinubu had declared a nationwide security emergency on November 26, 2025, directing the police and armed forces to recruit additional personnel to address rising insecurity across the country.
The application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, was originally set to close on January 25, 2026.
The new closing date is now February 8, 2026.
According to Mr. Torty Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the PSC, the extension comes after over 400,000 applications were received nationwide, with significant disparities in state participation.
While states like Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra had notably fewer submissions.
“The PSC and NPF are extending the recruitment deadline by two weeks to ensure equitable representation across the country.
“Eligible Nigerians, particularly from states with low application numbers, are strongly encouraged to apply via the official recruitment portal,” Kalu said.
He also urged state governments, local councils, sociocultural and religious organizations, community leaders, and other stakeholders to mobilize eligible citizens in their jurisdictions and encourage them to apply before the new deadline.
