Muyiwa Adekeye, the Media Adviser to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, says security operatives attempted to arrest the former minister upon his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
El-Rufai had raised an alarm that he could be arrested at any time by the federal government.
The former governor, who made the allegation during an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday, also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of mounting pressure on politicians to either defect to the party or remain within its fold.

However, Adekeye, in a statement, said El-Rufai declined to accompany the security agents without a formal invitation, adding that the officers thereafter took the former governor’s passport from an aide at the Abuja airport on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Adekeye said: “Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir elrufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo.
“He declined to follow them without a formal Invitation. They however snatched his passport from an aide.”
