No fewer than 10 cargo vessels have berthed at major ports in Lagos, awaiting clearance to discharge a range of commodities including bulk urea, containers, general cargo, aviation fuel, diesel and crude oil.
The Nigerian Ports Authority disclosed this in its latest Shipping Position report made available on Friday.
The agency said the vessels are currently at Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port and Lekki Deep Sea Port.
According to the report, about 38 additional ships carrying petroleum products, food items and other goods are expected to arrive at the ports between February 20 and February 28.
The authority said the incoming cargoes include buckwheat, beans, crude oil, empty containers, bulk urea, aviation fuel, blended stock, clinker, diesel, bulk gas and various containerised goods.
The update also indicated that 17 other vessels are already discharging cargo at the ports. These include shipments of containers, crude oil, bulk wheat, sugar, diesel, urea, general cargo and cargo trucks.
The shipping activity reflects ongoing trade flows through Lagos ports, which remain the country’s primary gateway for petroleum products, industrial inputs and food imports.
