President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians and members of the country’s armed forces that the nation will ultimately overcome insecurity, stressing that the sacrifices of military personnel defending the country will not be in vain.
The President gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu commended the courage, sacrifice and professionalism of officers and soldiers who continue to confront bandits and terrorist groups across the country, often at great personal cost.
“I thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation, knowing fully well that many times you are without your families and that you stay away from them. Some of you are facing attacks by bandits and terrorists,” he said.
He noted that the armed forces have continued to degrade the capabilities of criminal and terrorist groups operating in different parts of Nigeria, adding that the government remains committed to strengthening the military through improved welfare and operational support.
According to the President, his administration will continue investing in modern equipment, intelligence and logistics to enhance the operational effectiveness of the armed forces.
He also thanked Nigerians for their patience and endurance during the ongoing economic reforms, expressing optimism about the country’s recovery.
“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and those of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” Tinubu said.
The President also expressed sympathy to the government and people of Borno State over a recent terrorist attack in the state.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, commended the President for approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational efficiency of the armed forces.
Shaibu noted that the recent upward review of salaries for military personnel and allowances for members of the Brigade of Guards, as well as approvals for equipment procurement and improved accommodation, would significantly enhance the military’s ability to carry out its duties.
He assured the President that members of the armed forces appreciated the support and remained committed to defending the country and protecting its sovereignty.
