A fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed the main library of Kano State Polytechnic located along Yahaya Gusau Road in Kano, destroying books, equipment and academic records.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Kano State Chairman of the National Library Staff Union, Nazir Muhammad, who described the development as a major setback to academic activities and research in the institution.

According to the statement, the fire razed valuable educational materials and essential working tools within the library, raising concern among staff and students.

The union expressed sympathy to affected library workers, students and the management of the institution, noting that the facility plays a critical role in teaching, learning and knowledge preservation.

It also appealed to the government, education authorities and public-spirited individuals to support efforts to rebuild and improve the library.

The incident comes amid recurring cases of fire outbreaks recently recorded at the institution.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
