Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika.
The Grammy-nominated artiste shared the news in a series of emotional posts on her Instagram story in the early hours of Wednesday.
“God took him,” she wrote in one post, followed by another that read, “My husband died.” In a third message, she added: “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years,” reflecting on the length of their relationship.
Each post was accompanied by photos of the couple.
Ndika, who was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music, reportedly kept a low public profile alongside the singer.
Details surrounding his death were not immediately disclosed, as Niniola has largely kept her private life out of the spotlight.
Niniola, 39, rose to fame after finishing as a finalist on Project Fame West Africa in 2013 and has since become a leading figure in Nigeria’s afro-house scene.
Her breakout single Maradona gained international attention and earned her recognition from global stars including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland and Beyoncé.
