Twelve student teams from across Nigeria showcased innovative AI solutions at the grand finale of the Nigerian National AI Hackathon, organised by DeepFunding and SingularityNET in Lagos.
The competition, which drew participants from all six geopolitical zones, focused on building AI tools tailored to local needs, particularly in healthcare, language inclusion, and accessibility.
Team “Doctor Robot” emerged winner with an AI-powered medical assistant offering healthcare guidance in multiple Nigerian languages. Team Sophia came second with a community-based healthcare solution, while Team Eusate placed third with a multilingual customer support platform.
Other standout projects included an automated medication system by Team SOAT and “Path Pilot,” a navigation aid for visually impaired users, which also won a special judges’ award.
Organisers said the hackathon aims to empower African developers to build homegrown AI solutions and participate in global AI ecosystems, rather than rely on imported technologies.
They added that participating teams can continue developing their innovations within DeepFunding’s decentralised platform, where they retain ownership and can monetise their AI products.
