The Nigeria Police Force has rescued a woman and her 12-year-old twin sons who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation that led to a confrontation with their captors.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the victims — Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her sons, Peter and Paul — were rescued by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) at about 7:30 p.m.
The victims were kidnapped on June 3 while Mrs. Adegoke was driving her children to school in Ibadan.
According to the police, the rescue followed days of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and tactical operations that enabled investigators to track the movements of the kidnappers.
The operation culminated in a confrontation between the suspects and security operatives, during which two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded.
Police also recovered two rifles from the scene.
The force said the mother and her children were rescued unharmed and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and necessary support.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their professionalism, courage and commitment to duty.
He said their efforts were instrumental in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims.
The police further disclosed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.
Preliminary intelligence indicates that some of the fleeing suspects sustained gunshot injuries.
The force assured the public that security operatives had intensified manhunt operations to track down and arrest all those connected to the abduction.
The Nigeria Police Force also thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support during the operation, reaffirming its commitment to combating violent crimes and protecting lives and property across the country.
