The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced that the fourth edition of the Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture will hold on July 23, 2026, in Lagos.
According to a statement by the Guild, the event will take place at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, beginning at 9:00 a.m., and will focus on the theme: “The Media, INEC, Voters and the Path to Credible Elections.”
Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, will chair the event, while Prof. Sylvester Odion Akhaine of the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University, will deliver the keynote lecture.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
The Guild said the annual lecture series was instituted to honour the legacy of Lateef Jakande, the pioneer President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the first civilian governor of Lagos State, who served from 1979 to 1983.

The event is expected to bring together journalists, media executives, policymakers, academics, electoral stakeholders and members of the public to examine the role of the media, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and voters in strengthening credible elections in Nigeria.
