The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested two women accused of abducting children and allegedly selling them to buyers outside the territory.
The suspects, identified as Blessing and Rose, were arrested following an alleged attempt to abduct another child in the Kuje Area Council, the command said.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this on Thursday in a video, alleging that the women had previously been arrested in 2025 over the abduction of four children, including twins.
According to Adeh, police recovered two of the children, while the other two were allegedly taken to Port Harcourt and sold for N1.5 million each.
She said the two children were reportedly sold for a combined N3 million.
The suspects were subsequently prosecuted and spent four months in custody before their release, but the police spokesperson alleged that they later returned to child trafficking.
Adeh said the latest investigation began after the suspects allegedly travelled to Kuje, where they attempted to take another child.
She alleged that Blessing, who is from Benue State, used a hijab as a disguise during the alleged operations to avoid attracting suspicion while approaching children in different communities.
“This is Blessing. She’s a Christian from Benue State, but she wears hijab like this and she uses this hijab to abduct these children,” Adeh said.
The police spokesperson alleged that the children were subsequently moved out of the FCT and sold elsewhere.
She identified Rose as the second suspect and said she is from Enugu State. Both women, according to the police, are residents of the FCT.
“They will just wear the hijab, abduct these children and take off, then go and sell them outside FCT,” Adeh alleged.
The command expressed concern over the suspects’ alleged return to criminal activity after their previous arrest and prosecution.
“They only served four months and they went back to committing the same crime,” Adeh said.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the alleged trafficking network and identify other persons who may have been involved.
Adeh assured that the suspects and anyone else found culpable would be prosecuted after the conclusion of the investigation.
“As you all know, after our investigation, we’re going to be charging all of them to court,” she said.
