Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has distanced himself from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign, saying he was neither consulted nor gave consent before his name was listed as a member of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s policy team.
Moghalu, in a statement issued on Thursday, September 24, 2026, expressed surprise at seeing his name included in a statement issued by the Atiku campaign announcing the composition of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
The former CBN Deputy Governor said he was not a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team in any capacity.
“For the record, I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” he said.
Moghalu also clarified that he was not serving on the policy team, either officially, unofficially or in an advisory role.
The former presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) added that he had withdrawn from partisan politics since 2022 and had maintained a non-partisan position on national issues.
Moghalu stated: “I am not, in fact a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.
“I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs. I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria.”

According to him, his primary engagements are as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET Africa), a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, and as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
While reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria’s development, Moghalu stressed that his contribution to national progress would remain outside partisan politics.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail any partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” Moghalu said.
Moghalu’s clarification comes a few hours after the Atiku campaign announced him as one of the members of its policy team alongside other prominent politicians in the newly unveiled ADC Presidential Campaign Council.
