Troops have arrested a suspected high-profile terrorist who allegedly sneaked into Magumeri town, Borno State, triggering panic among residents.
The suspect, identified as Madumaki Modugai, was arrested at about 10:45 p.m. on October 5 by troops of the 109 Special Forces Battalion, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the arrest followed intelligence-led operations after security personnel tracked the suspect to Magumeri town.
His presence reportedly heightened tension among residents, who became apprehensive over the suspected terrorist’s activities. His arrest subsequently helped calm the situation and restore confidence in the community.
Preliminary interrogation indicated that Modugai allegedly operated around the fringes of the Lake Chad region and Niger Republic.
Residents and local vigilantes also reportedly told security personnel that the suspect had been involved in terrorist-related activities for about four years.
The suspect remains in military custody for further interrogation as security agencies investigate his movements, activities and possible links to terrorist networks operating around the Lake Chad Basin.
