The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) branch, has commended Governor Uba Sani for implementing the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and addressing several outstanding welfare issues affecting its members.
The union said the implementation, alongside the government’s commitment to staff welfare, would improve academic staff morale, productivity and industrial relations at the university.
The commendation was contained in a statement delivered on Friday by the branch Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, and Secretary, Silas Amos Bakut.
ASUU also listed several inherited welfare issues it said the Sani administration had addressed, including the payment of 60 per cent withheld salaries from 2017, outstanding Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) allowances for 2016 to 2020, and five months of withheld salaries covering May to September 2022.
The union further disclosed that the government had released N300 million towards settling Earned Academic Allowance arrears for the 2016 to 2020 academic sessions.
It added that the university’s Governing Council and management were working with the union to resolve outstanding death benefits and promotion arrears dating back to 2021.
According to the union, the interventions had provided considerable relief to affected members and demonstrated the government’s willingness to address longstanding welfare concerns through dialogue.

ASUU also commended the state government and university management for their handling of the earlier industrial action, saying members were neither intimidated nor harassed during the strike.
The union said salaries were paid while the strike was ongoing and engagements with the government and university management remained cordial and focused on resolving the dispute.
“This approach represents a significant departure from some of the unfortunate experiences of the past and demonstrates a renewed commitment to mutual respect, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of industrial disputes,” the statement said.
The union also recalled the government’s approval of about 10.2 hectares of land for the KASU-ASUU Multipurpose Cooperative Society to develop an Academia Housing Estate for academic staff and other civil servants.
It said the governor approved a subsidy of N4 million for each beneficiary, amounting to about N400 million for the project.
ASUU said the intervention was intended to make homeownership more accessible to beneficiaries.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to working with the state government and university management to resolve outstanding welfare matters and strengthen industrial harmony.
It also commended the Commissioner for Education and Chairman of the Negotiation Committee, Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, alongside the Chairman of the Governing Council, Ibrahim Umar, and other members of the negotiation committee for their roles in resolving the disputes.
