Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abaribe, who was a PDP governorship aspirant before announcing his withdrawal from the gubernatorial primaries on Tuesday, also resigned as the Senate Minority Leader.
He made his decision known via separate letters to the ward chairman of PDP in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.
The letter addressed to the party’s ward chairman was titled, ‘Resignation of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’.
Abaribe cited illegality, impunity, and hesitations in decision-making as reasons for dumping the PDP.
He stated: “I write to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents,” the letter read.
Abaribe’s letter announcing his resignation from his position as the Senate Minority Leader was titled, ‘Notification of resignation from the membership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Senate’.

The letter addressed to Senate President read: “This is to notify you and my dear colleagues in the Senate that I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party through my ward.
“This also means my resignation as Minority Leader of the Senate.
“I wish to thank you and my dear colleagues in the Leadership of the Senate for the warm camaraderie we enjoyed while I was Minority Leader.
“My new political direction will be made known in due course,” Abaribe stated.
