The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has frowned at the delay in releasing the governorship election results of Abia and Enugu states by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Obi, who urged INEC to accelerate its action on the election results, noted that further delay will question the commission’s intent and credibility of the gubernatorial poll.
The former governor of Anambra State enjoined INEC to fast-track its review and quench the anxiety of Nigerians, particularly citizens of the two states.
He said this via a statement issued on Tuesday by his campaign office.
Obi said: “Having appealed privately on this matter let me do it publicly, for the imperative of releasing the gubernatorial election results of Abia and Enugu states immediately.

“I am aware that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said they are reviewing the collation of the results in these two states. I like to urge them to accelerate their actions as the continued delay is questioning INEC’s intent and the credibility of the election.”
The LP presidential flag-bearer further expressed disappointment that 48 hours after the election was conducted, results are still being delayed.
“It’s disheartening that the commission is unable to resolve whatever issues that are holding the release of the results.
“The records of elections from polling units should not be difficult to calculate if the electoral officials are committed to the integrity of the exercise, and the stipulated guidelines,” Obi added.
