The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition partners convened a pivotal summit in Umuahia, Abia State on Friday, signaling a united political movement ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
During the meeting, Abia State ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, announced that the party has been officially adopted as the political platform for the coalition’s revival efforts.
He described the initiative as both a realignment and a response to prolonged governance failures, economic hardship, and citizen disenfranchisement under the current APC-led government.

Obinna condemned rising unemployment, the declining value of the naira, and inadequate civil servant wages, asserting that the coalition’s mission is to alleviate poverty, restore hope, and return Nigeria to a path of growth and justice.
“This is not just about politics; it’s about rescuing Nigeria,” Obinna declared. “We must rebuild our nation through leadership grounded in integrity, equity, and transparency.”
He called for the political liberation of Abia and the nation at large, noting that since 1999, the ADC has advocated for leaders capable of steering the country with justice and fairness.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a political analyst and reform advocate, stressed the importance of civic participation and inclusive governance.
He criticized the marginalisation of the South East and championed rotational leadership and issue-based campaigns.
“We must reject vote-buying and political deception,” Afamefuna said.
“Only through citizen-driven accountability can Nigeria be truly transformed.”
Also speaking at the event, Rev. Blessed Amalambu, the ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate in Abia, urged the coalition to thoroughly vet candidates to prevent infiltration by corrupt political actors.
The summit underscored the coalition’s commitment to reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape through unity, reform, and people-centered leadership.
