ADC takes early lead in Kubwa, Bwari chairmanship poll

The African Democratic Congress is in an early lead in the chairmanship race at polling units within LEA Primary School, Kubwa II, in Bwari Area Council, according to results announced by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Figures from four polling units show a closely contested race between the ADC and the All Progressives Congress. The ADC recorded a combined 67 votes, while APC polled 40 votes. The Zenith Labour Party scored 21 votes and the All Progressives Grand Alliance garnered 20 votes.

Turnout at the polling centre was low, with only 181 voters casting ballots out of 4,063 registered voters.

Breakdowns from Units 044, 045, 047 and 006 reflected mixed performances across both chairmanship and councillorship contests, with the two leading parties trading margins in some units.

The exercise was marked by voter apathy and reported incidents of vote buying, including allegations that some voters were offered ₦2,000 per vote at a polling unit near Water Board junction along Byazhin in Kubwa.

There were also logistical challenges, as the battery of a BVAS device ran down at one point, prompting voters to provide power banks to keep the machine running.

Despite reported mobilisation efforts linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, turnout remained low across the area. Some voters said mobilisation through traders’ unions influenced their participation, citing expectations of market development and other projects.
