Adesina: I didn’t say I’ll vie for 2027 presidency

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has denied nursing a presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Adesina had, in a recent interview on Arise Television, said he is available for national service after his tenure at the AfDB ends.

The former minister added that he is willing to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, or in his home country, Nigeria.

“I will be available to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country, Nigeria,” Adesina had said.

However, Adesina, in a post on his X account on Thursday, February 13, 2025, said his words were misrepresented.

‘I’m available’: Adesina hints on running for 2027 presidency

The AfDB boss stated: “A segment of my recent interview on Arise TV has been both misinterpreted and misrepresented in several Nigerian media outlets.

“What I said was, ‘I will be available to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country’.

“A listen to the substantive and robust interview, which is available online, will show this to be the case.

“For clarity and for the record, I did not say that I am running for the office of President of Nigeria.”
