Again, stock market investors lose N515bn

The Nigerian stock market recorded 0.41 per cent decline on Thursday, February 26, 2026, indicating N515 billion loss for investors.

Investors extended profit-taking in consumer, banking, and insurance stocks such as Jaiz Bank, Ikeja Hotel, John Holt, Nigerian Enamelware, Cadbury, and 33 other declined equities which propelled the market’s negative performance.

The market capitalisation, which opened at N124.753 trillion, lost N515 billion to close at N124.238 trillion.

The All-Share Index fell by 0.41 per cent or 802.39 points, settling at 193,567.81 compared to 194,370.20 recorded on Wednesday.

The Year-To-Date (YTD) return decreased to 24.39 per cent, while the market breadth closed negative with 38 losers and 30 gainers.

Jaiz Bank led the losers’ chart by 9.98 per cent, closing at N12 63, Ikeja Hotel and John Holt trailed by 9.90 per cent each, ending the session at N37.75, and N8.65 per share, respectively.

Nigerian Enamelware lost by 9.88 per cent, finishing at N36.50, while Cadbury dipped by 9.69 per cent, settling at N61.95 per share.

Cement price surge hits N11,000

Conversely, FTN Cocoa Processors led the gainers’ chart by 10 per cent, ending the session at N6.05, RT Briscoe followed by 9.95 per cent, settling at N11.38, while Deap Capital Management gained by 9.92 per cent, closing at N6.98 per share.

Japaul Gold Ventures added by 9.91 per cent, finishing at N3.77, and Omatek Ventures increased by 9.72 per cent, closing at N2.37 per share.

Market activity recorded an overall decline, with total volume, total value and deals down by 36.01 per cent, 30.58 per cent and one per cent, respectively.

868.5 million shares worth N31.5 billion were traded across 69,310 deals, compared with 1.4 billion shares valued at N46.2 billion that was exchanged in 70,222 transactions on Wednesday.

Jaiz Bank recorded the highest volume with 78.94 million shares traded, accounting for 9.09 per cent of the day’s total volume.

Zenith Bank recorded the highest value at N4.06 billion, accounting for 12.89 per cent of value traded for the day.
