Aiyedatiwa inspects Obe-Nla walkway project, installs two Ilaje monarchs

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, paid an inspection visit to the ongoing construction of a 1,000-meter concrete walkway and jetty in Obe-Nla community, located in Ilaje Local Government Area.

The project, which replaces the traditional wooden structures typical of the riverine areas, is designed to include modern streetlights to enhance safety and accessibility.

During the visit, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of work despite the difficult terrain.

He urged the contractor to maintain the standard and ensure timely completion of the project, which is aimed at improving infrastructure and connectivity for residents in the coastal community.

The governor’s visit also coincided with the formal presentation of staff of office and instruments of appointment to two traditional rulers in Ilaje: Oba Ademola Akinbule, the newly recognized Yasere of Oriretan, and Oba Olusola Ajaka, the Gbogunro of Idi-Ogba Alagbon.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in governance and community development, noting that the recognition and elevation of chieftaincy titles across the state reflects the government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting local leadership.

He recalled that on June 20, 2025, the Ondo State Executive Council approved the renaming of the title “Yasere of Ilepepe” to “Yasere of Oriretan,” following due verification and consideration.

Congratulating Oba Akinbule on his historic appointment as the pioneer monarch of Oriretan, Aiyedatiwa described the role of traditional rulers as a sacred call to serve the people and promote peace.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s unwavering focus on securing lives and property in the state, pledging to continue efforts to rid communities of criminal elements.

In his welcome address, Ilaje Local Government Chairman, Maurice Oripenaye, praised the governor for his developmental strides and commitment to traditional institutions.

He highlighted the government’s ongoing infrastructural projects, including asphalt road construction, renovation of schools and hospitals, and the recently launched dual carriageway from Okitipupa to Igbokoda.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to address outstanding chieftaincy matters and ensure harmony across communities.

The day’s events marked a significant step in both infrastructural transformation and the strengthening of traditional leadership in Ondo State’s riverine regions.
